APC Senator dumps party in Niger

The Senator representing Niger-South senatorial district in the National Assembly, Alhaji Abdullahi Mustapha, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after describing the entire exercise that brought ridicule to the party as, ‘Kangaroo election’.

Citing high level injustice meted out to him during and after the primaries in Niger State as one of his reasons for dumping the ruling party, Mustapha however did not state his next political destination.

Mustapha was one of the three senators that lost the senatorial primaries to the entirely new entrant to the APC senatorial race in Niger-South, Alhaji Mohammed Bima, in a contest that took place in the senatorial zone recently.

Mustapha was among the senators who protested the outcome of the exercise he described as “A Kangaroo election” and had asked the National Working Committee of the party to declare him winner or order for the conduct of a fresh transparent election.

A source close to Senator Mustapha said that his principal was further irked by the decision of the National Working Committee to instead give automatic tickets to the two remaining serving senators but left him out of the arrangement.

According to the source, “I don’t know the parameter they used before taking such decisions. All the Senators were to be given automatic tickets but he was the only one that was left out, I cannot understand why the decided so”.

Also, the spokesman for the Senator, Alhaji Awal Abubakar Gata, when contacted on phone confirmed that his principal had, ‘resigned from the APC because of noticeable injustices’.

“We have resigned from the APC because of injustice, we are currently consulting on the next line of action to take”, Awal Abubakar said, adding that his principal was “cleared along with David Umaru and Sabi only for him to be substituted at the end”.

Recall, last Sunday a group working for the Senator led by, Alhaji Mohammed Ebamma Gana had protested against the substitution of Mustapha Ibrahim but said, “As loyal party men and women we will remain in the party and fight the injustice’’.
