The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Adamu Ciroma as a patriot, distinguished bureaucrat, elder statesman, frontline journalist and astute politician whose contributions to deepening democracy and national development will be long remembered and celebrated.
In mourning the death on Friday, the APC said “indeed, the country has lost a brilliant mind and a man of proven integrity.”
In a statement from APC spokesman, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said “in politics, the private and public sector, the late Adamu Ciroma distinguished himself,” adding that, “the APC fondly recalls his distinguished tenures as first indigenous Editor and Managing Director of New Nigerian Newspaper and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).”
“In public service, we celebrate the late Adamu Ciroma’s exemplary work as a minister during the President Shehu Shagari administration, particularly the implementation of the president’s agenda on food production aptly tagged the Green Revolution.
“In the struggle to entrench democracy in the country after the cessation of military rule, the Party recalls the late Adamu Ciroma was one of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), going on to serve as Minister of Finance.
“While the Party condoles with the government and people of Yobe State over the passing of the late Adamu Ciroma, we pray Almighty Allah grants him rest and equally grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the APC said.
