By Julius Alabi, Akure

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senatorial aspirant in Ondo State, Rear Admiral Samuel Ilesanmi Alade, has empowered over 300 rural women dwellers in Constituency 2 in Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

While empowering the women at Irun Akoko yesterday, Alade declared that women empowerment was the only panacea for poverty reduction and economy development in Nigeria.

The women would be trained in soap making, cosmetology, caking and confectioneries makeover and leather work among others.

He said that rural women dwellers were seriously in need of empowerment and skill acquisitions to lift them up from their poverty level.

“With my going round the six local government areas in Ondo North Senatorial District in the state, I discoverd that our women in the area need education, skills, access to assets/credit, social protection to fully develop their productive assets and tackle poverty,” he said.

Alade said that for women, their families and society to reap the benefits of economic development and poverty reduction, investments in and empowerment of women both economic and socially were inevitable. He therefore appealed to the participants to be more focused so as to make their lives better.
