The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday commiserated with former Governor of Osun State and the party’s former Interim National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande over the death of his wife Mrs Omowunmi Akande, who passed on July 11, 2017 at the age of 73.
“At this sorrowful time, the party extends heartfelt condolences. May the Almighty God grant the late Chief (Mrs) Omowunmi Akande eternal rest and the family the strength to bear this great loss,” APC said in a statement signed by its national Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
“The late Omowunmi was a loyal wife of 51 years, dedicated mother, role model and strong pillar of support during His Excellency’s numerous public assignments as former governor of Osun State; former National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and first interim National Chairman of the APC, amongst other public assignments.
“As former First Lady of Osun State, her humility, charitable initiatives and community development efforts endeared her to the people of the state.
“Indeed, the family, government and people of Osun State and indeed our great party have lost an exemplary woman.”
In the same vein, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Wednesday expressed sadness over the death of Akande’s wife.
The Governor in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, described late Omowunmi as an epitome of humility, uprightness and one who was a pillar of support for her husband.
“She was a shining example of a virtuous woman, who stood by her husband through thick and thin especially during the period he was incarcerated. She kept the home front together and ensured that his absence did not affect their children adversely,” the Governor said.
While praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, he urged her husband, Chief Bisi Akande, to take solace in the fact that she has gone to a better place and draw strength from the joyful years they shared together.
Governor Ambode also commiserated with the children and relatives of the deceased, just as he prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the great loss.
“On behalf of the good people of Lagos, I want to express our heartfelt condolence to the family of Chief Bisi Akande on this great and irreparable loss”, he said.
