Former Senate President Anyim Pius has expressed his condolences to the people of Abia and its governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, over the death of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof Uche Ikonne.
The former vice chancellor of Abia State University died on Wednesday morning at the National Hospital, Abuja after a brief illness, according to his son, Dr Uche-Ikonne Chikezie.
In his condolence message, Pius described Ikonne’s death as a huge loss, not only to Abia State but to the entire South East and Nigeria.
He said, “I have received with deep sadness, news of the passing of Prof. Uche lkonne.
“Your Excellency, I convey to you, the immediate family of Prof. Uche lkonne, the Government and good people of Abia my heartfelt condolences on this very unfortunate incident.

“Prof. Uche lkonne’s record of services to Abia State as former Rector, Abia State Polytechnic Aba, Former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and Vice-Chancellor of Abia State University marked him out as a dedicated, disciplined, focused and result-driven leader.”
