Former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku profusely welcomed Senator Victor Umeh and Prof Mike Ozekhome to the Under-16 football tournament as the Samadeck boys of Lagos state defeated Alatishe Boys from Ondo by 2-0 in Lagos.
The match which was keenly contested was watched by capacity crowd and high caliber spectators such as distinguished and serving senator Victor Umeh and Professor Mike Ozekhome who was represented by Barr. Onuoha and a host of others.
Chief Emeka Anyaoku after the match, expressed gratitude to the young players, insisting that the competition which began 16 years ago was meant to foster unity, corporation, healthy rivalry and hard work among Youth of this era.
Chief Anyaoku said for the future of Nigeria to be guaranteed, the youth of today must have a direction and the direction must be towards where their talents could be harnessed to achieve the desired Unity.
He thanked Lagos State government for it’s support over the years.
Visiting Chief Dr. Umeh could not contain his excitement after watching what he described as a thrilling match by young talented footballers. He heaped encomiums on Chief Anyaoku for sponsoring the grassroots football tournament for over a decade and praised him for his steadfastness in using sports to promote unity in Nigeria.
“Let me first and foremost congratulate Chief Emeka Anyaoku for the the success of this youth competition being name after him.And secondly I am happy that the Lagos State Government has allocated land for the Emeka Anyaoku Mini stadium somewhere in Ikorodu. I think it is good initiative and we need to organize fundraising to achieve the completion of the stadium and I am using this medium to call the friends and relations of the Chief Anyaoku as well as well as well meaning Nigerians to support this initiative.”
The distinguished Senator representing Anambra however assured that he would do all he could with others to galvanize support from Anambra State and Nigeria in general to build the proposed Emeka Anyaoku Mini-Stadium at Ikorodu in Lagos state
