ANWLG @ 30: Akande harps on women empowerment as panacea for poverty reduction

The Chairman  of Akoko North West Local government area of Ondo State (ANWLG), Elder Ayo Akande, has said that the only panacea to poverty reduction in Nigeria is wowen empowerment.


According to him, if this country really want to improve economically, women need to be educated and have skill acquisitions to lift them up from their poverty level.


Addressing newsmen at Creek Golf Club at Ilado in Akure to begin the 30th anniversary of Aloko North West Local government, Akande said the one week event will include Women Conference where there will be exhibition by women in the council to showcase their various hands works and acquire more skills.


Other events lined up include Sanitation, Football Match,Youth conference, Gala Nite featuring Awards Ceremony to honour  deserving Personalities and an impactful Economic Summit.

“Let me tell you that I discoverd that our women in the area need education, skills, and social protection in order to fully develop their productive assets and tackle poverty,” the Chairman noted 

Akande however stressed that for women, their families and society to reap the benefits of economic development and poverty reduction, investments in and empowerment of women both economic and socially are inevitable.


The Chairman also noted that the council is planning mass investment in agriculture since agriculture is the key economic enterprise of the area.


“The predominant occupation our people in the Council is large scale farming. The people cultivate crops such as cocoa, coffee, yam, and cassava among others”, he added
