Another office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been burnt down in Imo State.
This time, the sad incident occurred at the INEC office in Njaba local government. The attack took place on Sunday.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Imo State, Prof. Francis Egeonu, said although no life was lost, the building was substantially burnt down with valuable electoral materials, equipment and furniture destroyed.
A statement by Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, said the attack was coming only one week after INEC office in Ahiazu Mbaise local government was vandalised on Sunday, May 23.
The attack on the Njaba office is the eighth attack on INEC offices in Imo State and the 42nd attack nation-wide since the 2019 general election.
Okoye warned that attacks on INEC infrastructure could jeopardize the 2023 elections.
