Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, has said their arch-rivals, Barcelona were able to extend their lead on the La Liga log table because they have been more consistent than his team this season.

Ancelotti made this known when speaking after Real Madrid’s  2-1 defeat to the league leaders, Barcelona, at the Nou Camp on Sunday night.

The crucial victory saw the Catalans extend their advantage at the top of the La Liga league table from nine to 12 points.

The visitors took an early lead when Vinicius Jr’s cross was headed into his own net by Ronald Araujo.

Barcelona, however, levelled on the stroke of half-time through Sergi Roberto, before Franck Kessie netted an injury-time winner for the hosts, after Real Madrid’s goal was ruled offside by VAR.

When asked why Real Madrid are so far behind in the title race, Ancelotti said even though his team are now performing well, their form after the World Cup gave Barcelona the big lead.

He said: “It’s simple, they’ve been more consistent than us this season.

“Our January let us down a lot, just after the World Cup. Now, we are doing well and I think we’ll finish the season well.

“We are now further behind than we were before the game, but we will give our all in every game over the rest of the season.”
