Anambra pays for Mmesoma to undergo therapy before appeal to JAMB

Mmesoma Ejikeme, who forged her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result, has been sent to psychotherapy and counselling for three months, paid for by the Anambra government.

Anambra Education Commissioner Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, a Professor, disclosed in Awka that Mmesoma, 19, would undergo therapy as recommended by the state panel which investigated the forgery.

Mmesoma – a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi – made the headlines in June after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) called her out for manipulating her UTME score from 249 to 362, thereby falsely parading herself as UTME top scorer for 2023.

Anambra to appeal to JAMB after Mmesoma’s therapy

Before admitting to the crime, Mmesoma had engaged JAMB in accusation and counter-accusation, which led to JAMB banning her for three years, which means she cannot get into a tertiary school for three years.

She appeared before a panel of the House of Representatives alongside JAMB officials on Wednesday in Abuja where she apologised in person to the examination body and pleaded for it to temper justice with mercy.

“We considered what Mmesoma did as ‘juvenile delinquency’ to which any child could fall victim. So, we are not going to throw the baby away with the bath water,” Chuma-Udeh explained, per reporting by The PUNCH.

“She is now under a psychotherapist counsellor who will take her on therapy for three months after which the state government will appeal to JAMB management on behalf of her to reconsider one or two things.”

She commended Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo for approving the psychotherapy and counselling treatment as recommended by the investigative panel.
