Anambra: Oroma Etiti community leader killed

The President General of Oroma Etiti in Anambra West council, Mr. Julius Chinwuba, who also doubled as secretary of All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA), has been killed.

Chinwuba was allegedly killed on November 15, three days to Anambra Governorship election.

To cover the murder, Chinwuba’s body with hands and legs tied, was thrown into the River Niger so that by the time the corpse floats in far away place, it would be difficult to identify.

However, his body reportedly floated on November 17, 2017, and was discovered by the members of the community.

Chinwuba from Umunzu kindred was until his death a community leader and elected President General of the community.

He was feared to have been murdered two days to the conduct of the governorship election held on November 18.

It was however gathered that before he disappeared, he had running battle with prominent people from his community who demanded that he should surrender the position of President General.

According to sources, he attended a meeting convened by the members of his Umunzu kindred on that faithful day, where he was said to have been clubbed to death before being tied hands and legs together with bags of sand and blocks and thrown into the river.

It would be recalled that prior to his death, his house was said to have been burnt, and his farms

destroyed in Oroma Etiti all in an attempt to compel him to surrender both positions of the President General and APGA secretary of the community, which was zoned to his Umunzu kindred, and he won on popular votes against the candidate of his opponents from the same kindred.

When contacted, the traditional ruler of Oroma Etiti community, Igwe Nwozekwe Okeke, regretted that the police in the state were yet to arrest anybody in connection with

the incident.

He said that the suspects have ran away from the community and they could not pursue them since it was only the police that could go after them.

He lamented that there has not been any serious action by the Police since the murder took place.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Nkeiru Nwode, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, said that she could not speak elaborately on the matter.
