A resident of Akwa in Anambra State identified as Nnamdi Nnebe, who allegedly stabbed his elder brother’s wife, Njideka Nnebe, will face murder charge.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo, who vowed to institute an attempted murder case against him.
Narrating her ordeal, Njideka said trouble started when Nnamdi came out of the family compound, and noticed that the children in the family were playing inside the tricycle (keke) he parked in front of the family house.
She went on to say he accused her son of playing with the keke even when he was reportedly not among the children.
She further said that she tried to disabuse his mind without success and a fight later ensued when the suspect tried to attack her son.
Njideka said she quickly moved with the help of her daughter to defend her son, prompting her brother-in-law to run into the family house and appear with a “daga” (local jackknife).
She added that when the suspect aimed the daga at her shoulder, she had no alternative than to defend with her bare hands.
“That was when the knife pierced my right elbow to the other side,” she said.

Also speaking on the incident while visiting the victim in the hospital, the Commissioner for Social Welfare said, “I think we will follow up this case and insist that justice is served, to serve as a deterrent to other people, who may want to engage in such a dastardly act.
“This case will not be allowed to be treated as a mere family issue, we will make sure that the right thing is done.
“Nobody has the right to inflict this kind of injury on anyone, even if the person is your wife.
“Therefore, we are going to charge him with attempted murder, so that other people will not try such a thing again.”
Obinabo queried the reason behind the attempt by the suspect to kill his brother’s wife over a mere family altercation, stressing that the culprit must face the full wrath of the law.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect has been apprehended and that he would be charged to court at the end of ongoing investigations.
