Ejiofor (APGA Anaocha 1) had urging members to support the immortalisation of the late Akunyili as a distinguished and selfless servant of Nigeria.

He said Akunyili was an internationally renowned pharmacist, erudite scholar, seasoned administrator and a visionary leader who championed the national rebranding campaign, “Nigeria: Good People, Great Nation’’.

The legislator said that she meritoriously served the country in various capacities as the Petroleum Trust Fund member, NAFDAC Director-General and Minister of Information and Communication.

Ejiofor said that Akunyili was among the three delegates representing the state in the ongoing National Conference.

“In spite of these services rendered, she exhibited accountability, fairness, impartiality, transparency and high level of professionalism in her life time,’’ Ejiofor said.

The motion was supported by Mr Tony Muonagor (APC Idemili North), who said that the motion was timely.

Muonagor said the late Akunyili showed high level of patriotism, honesty and transparency during her course of service to the nation.

“In the late Akunyili case, it was proved that honesty pays, her honest life shut her to limelight during Obasanjo’s regime,’’ he said.

Mr Valentine Ayika (PDP Njikoka1), Mrs Rita Maduagwu (APGA Nnewi South 2) and Dr Emeka Aniebonam (APC Onitsha South), described the deceased as a rare gem and should be immortalised.

They said that her immortalisation was a way of encouraging hard work.
