Anambra House of Assembly receives Soludo’s 20-member list of commissioner-designates

Anambra State House of Assembly on Tuesday received Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s list of 20 Commissioner-nominees.

He is sending the list five days beyond the one week timeframe he had earlier set for himself.

Soludo had promised that he would give the House of Assembly the list one week after his inauguration.

But unlike what is usually the practice both at the federal and state levels where such names are submitted without portfolios, Soludo attached portfolios to each of the names he submitted to the lawmakers.

Many had argued in the past that attaching portfolios to ministerial list or list of commissioner-nominees will enable the lawmakers do a better and effective job in screening such people.

When the two – position and person – are matched, they argue it will make for putting a square peg in a square hole.

But all such entreaties have been falling on deaf ears.

The list had some of former Governor Willie Obiano’s men and two reporters from the State owned Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

They are: Nollywood actor Mr Don Onyenji and Mrs Ifenyinwa Obinabo, who later served as Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba North local government area.

Onyenji will serve as Commissioner for Entertainment, Culture and Tourism while Obinabo was nominated as Commissioner for Women Affairs.

Some of Obiano’s former appointees were: Mr Paul Nwosu, whose name appeared on Information; Ifeatu Onejeme for Finance; Hon Collins Nwabunwanne local government and Chieftancy Matters and Chief Chikodi Anara, Home Land Affairs and others.

Prof Chika Ifejeme was nominated to serve as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, among others.

Soludo, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, was sworn in as the governor of Anambra State on march 17.

The swearing-in took place at the state government house in Awka.

Soludo, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), won the Anambra governorship election with 112,229 votes in 2021.

Soludo took the oath of office alongside Onyeka Ibezim, his deputy at a low-key event.
