Anambra govt to arrest herdsmen with firearms

Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has warned cattle herders in the state who carry dangerous weapons to stay away from the state.
The governor warned that he would not hesitate to drag such people to face the wrath of the law if found in the state.
He said that on no account should herdsmen wielding AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons be allowed in the state.
During a reception in his Aguleri country home after receiving the chieftaincy title of Ebubedike Aguleri from his traditional ruler, Igwe Christopher Nwabunwanne Idigo, the governor assured he was on top of the Fulani cattle menace experienced in some parts of the state and would ensure that the matter was quickly resolved amicably.
He said that he had been briefed on the update as the Chief Security Officer of the state, adding that his government had immediately commenced actions to forestall any incident that may lead to mayhem or loss of lives.
“Part of the measures taken to address the menace was sensitizing both the host communities and the Fulani herdsmen of the existing agreement that any party that destroys either the lives or property of the other will pay and also be prosecuted,” he stressed.
Describing the people of the state as peace-loving, who welcome visitors who are seeking wealth opportunities in the state, Obiano however warned those who may want to take advantage of the people’s hospitality would be decisively dealt with.
He reassured farmers in the affected communities of his administration’s commitment to put an end to the cattle invasion on their farmlands.
