Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Lagos chapter, will host an event for writers called Authors’ Groove during the Nigerian International Book Fair holding from May 9 to May 14 at the Multipurpose Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka.
The chairman, Femi Onileagbon, made this known to TheNiche.
The Authors’ Groove, he said, is a special part of the book fair that allows the reading public to meet physically most of their favourite authors and ask questions that have always stirred their minds.
“The Groove this year has a different bent, however. While the usual culture of reader-meets-author will be maintained, we are using this edition to bring together all stakeholders in the authorship industry,” he said.
The aim, he explained, is to start the process that will lead to better protection for authors and their works in areas such as: royalties, piracy, application for selection into schools’ reading lists, publishing, taxation, personal and intellectual rights as well as marketing, distribution of books, writers’ residencies and grants.
The theme of the Groove, which starts at 10am, is ‘Everyone feeds on the author, but who feeds the author? A stakeholders’ summit on the creative writing industry’.
Date is Friday, May 13, and venue is the university’s multipurpose hall.
Onileagbon will host the event which expects to have panelists like the Director, National Library of Nigeria, Ebutte Metta; Commissioner of Education, Lagos; Commissioner of Police, Lagos; Chairman, Copyright Commission; President, Nigerian Publishers’ Association and a host of others.
