Amnesty International has called for the closure of Giwa Barracks in North-East Nigeria.
It alleged that the military barracks houses a detention centre cum place of death. In its report, the human rights group said that 149 detainees, including seven young children and four babies have died “in horrendous conditions” at the detention centre. Amnesty International also said that it believes that about 1,200 people are being held at Giwa, many of them arbitrarily rounded up during mass arrests.
