Despite the order given by Federal High Court sitting in Awka to release six students and one lecturer of Madonna University, human rights watchdog, Amnesty International, and many notable Nigerians have added their voices for the release of the students.
The students and the lecturer have been in detention since February over a post that they made on Facebook about the injustices in the school.
Some Nigerians reacted on social media calling the act callous, inhuman and barbaric.
EndSars campaigner, Segun Awosanya, popularly called Segalinks said the detention of the students and the lecturer remains a shock to many.
“This remains a rude shock to sane minds, that elements within our society would do this to fellow human beings because of a harmless post. Madonna University is walking on the path to infamy. This is impunity cloaked in clergy’s robe,” he said.
Activist, Comrade Deji Adeyanju expressed desire to work with the parents of the students to secure their release.
“Though granted bail, the students have not been released yet. Madonna University must pay for this injustice”.
Giwa Murtala Omotalo-Moore in his tweet said that the case is getting out of hand and the school must be called to order
“This Madonna University saga is getting out of hand. Injury to one is an injury to all; we need to speak up so that our fellow citizens in prison over what I see as victimization will be released. Moreover we are not in banana republic where there is no law”.
Madonna University was founded by a Catholic priest, Father Emmanuel Edeh in Elele, River State.N
