With barely 24 hours to the inauguration of a new government, the outgoing Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Amobode, has officially handed over to the incoming governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, a move which critics say leaves a vacuum in governance as Ambode’s tenure elapses 12 midnight today.
Amode posted a picture of him handing over to Sanwo-Olu on social media “after a rewarding 4-year experience,” he said.
“To the Glory of God, I have just handed over the reins of government in Lagos State to His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, after a rewarding 4-year experience. This would not have been possible without the support, cooperation, and prayers of all Lagosians. I remain eternally grateful to you all. God bless you all. And to God be all the Glory,” Amode said on social media.
Over the weekend, former Lagos State First Lady and Ambode’s wife, Bolanle Ambode handed over to Sanwo-Olu, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
Today’s official handover fueled speculations that Ambode will not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Sanwo-Olu as he has largely kept the Inauguration Committee in the dark about events leading up to the handover.
