Alli, Usifo, Oyiki others extol Grassroots Athletics

The executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, and other ex-athletes have commended the sponsor, Princess Mabel Madojiemu for the introduction of grassroots athletics in her Foundation.

The competition which started on Thursday drew Athletes from Benin and other schools outside Edo State.

Alli said it has always been better to catch them young and start to nurture them from early age.

“This was how some of us emerged and today we thank God we made great impact by contributing to Nigeria’s greatness in sports.”

He commended the sponsor, Mabel Madojiemu, for such a giant stride through her Foundation.

In his reaction, lawyer and former 110m Hurdler based in Dublin, Orode Oyiki hailed Madojiemu’s effort in his Facebook account as very awesome and impressive.

Also, Maria Usifo said: “This is the way to go and wished that Athletes discovered would be adequately groomed for future accomplishment.

“I tell you, I’m happy these school kids have come to love Athletics the way we did  in our days, the crowed here surprised me despite other things that could have distracted these young ones, they still came to run, I’m very impressed that the future harvest of these talents would be greater”

The Competition which began on Thursday September 29th 2022 witnessed 14 heats in the 100m boys/girls, 10 heats in the 400m boys/girls and in the long jump, over 21 young talents boys/ girls lined up for the preliminaries.

Also other ex-athletes like Musa Audu, Glory Alozie, AFN vice president Tafida Gadzama, Uche Isaac, Coach Isaac Ikhbomen and others commended the sponsor in their various Facebook pages for the organization of the competition.

On Friday, which is the final day of the competition would feature contest in all events namely, 100/200m, 400m, long jump, 4x100m relays boys/girls etc.
