Akunyili’s killers are vying for election in Anambra, says IPOB

The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that the killers of Dr Chike Akunyili, husband to the iconic late Dora Akunyili, are currently vying for office in the November 6 Anambra governorship election.

Chike Akunyili was murdered by unknown gunmen, who also eliminated his driver and police escort while returning from a memorial lecture of his wife at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

IPOB spokesman, Emma Powerful, alleged that the killing of Chike Akunyili was politically motivated.

The secessionist group’s spokesman also claimed without showing evidence that Dora Akunyili was killed by poison.

He says: “Those who poisoned Dora Akunyili are currently contesting for election in Anambra. They are the ones who killed her husband.

“They poisoned Dora for exposing Umaru Yaradua’s death and asking that a southerner, Goodluck Jonathan, be sworn in as president.

“The same Fulani people are currently contesting to take over power in Anambra State.

“We don’t know him and IPOB has no hand in his death, but IPOB will get the killers and expose them for trying to work with the DSS to paint IPOB black by linking the group to the senseless political assassination,” Emma Powerful said.
