Fifty-one days after he took oath of office as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu may finally unveil those who will help him in running the affairs of Nigeria today.

This is because, barring any last minute changes, Senate President Godswill Akpabio will today – Wednesday – read the letter containing Tinubu’s nominees for ministerial positions.

A source close to the leadership of the Senate disclosed this to The Nation in a terse WhatsApp message on Tuesday night.

The source confirmed that the list is already with the Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambuwal, for onward delivery to the Senate President who is expected to officially read the letter on the floor of the Senate during plenary.

“The Senate President, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, will read H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Ministerial Nominee list on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023,” the message to the newspaper owned by the President read.

Recall that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC – Ekiti South) had earlier denied knowledge of the list.

It was however learnt that the President sent the list in compliance with the provisions of the constitution.

According to a new amendment to the 1999 Constitution, the President and governors must submit the names of persons nominated as ministers or commissioners within 60 days of taking the oath of office for confirmation by the Senate or state Houses of Assembly.

The amendment was triggered by the governance lethargy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who took almost six months after his inauguration in 2015 to appoint ministers.

That delay occasioned some major disruptions in the course of governance.
