Speaking to the Governor after casting his vote at his polling unit in Essien Udim, Akpabio blamed the pockets of violence on the All Progressives Congress in the state, who he said wanted to disrupt the elections to avoid their imminent defeat.

He said, “Those who know they cannot win elections are trying to bring violence and are trying to see how they can stop the process.

“The impunity we are seeing; people going round to bring thugs, even attempting to use security agents wrongly like 7 policemen were arrested in my local government and they are from Uyo division.

“They actually real policemen but on illegal duty and they said they were sent by the APC, so that there would be no elections in Akwa Ibom.

He added “Anybody who is losing elections should not foment trouble under the guise that we have the federal government behind.”

However, Akpabio hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission for the successful conduct of the elections despite initial hitches noticed during the accreditation exercise.

He said “I just believe that the process will come and go because there is no way you will give birth to a child without splitting blood.

“So, there must be small skirmishes here and there but on the whole, more than 85 percent of the entire states, peaceful elections are going on and at the end I know the will of God will be done.”
