Akindele U-15 Boys, Girls cup hots up in Lagos

All are set for the finals of the 5th edition of Dr Bola Akindele U-15 Boys and girls cup slated for Ajele Mini-Stadium at campus Square, Lagos Island.

The grassroots soccer tournament which would feature 32 teams comprising boys and girls preliminaries is currently ongoing at the Oko-Baba stadium, in Lagos.

According to the organisers, the preliminaries started on June 18th and would be reduced to 16 and later Four teams would engage each other in the semi-finals and finals on the 24th of July 2022 at the Ajele Mini Stadium, Campus Square, Lagos.

In a media chat, the sponsor of the soccer tournament Dr Bola Akindele and Group Managing Director of Courville Business Solution PLC said his desire is to assist the young stars to horn their career in what interests they cherish most.

“I have no special interest in what I would gain for sponsoring this tournament, I’m only doing this for God and humanity. If any football scout has an interest, well, that’s their business as for me, I have provided the platform they would use to better their lives and if that is accomplished, I’m alright,” Akindele said.

The sponsor announced a N2 million cash price for the 4 teams that would contest in the finals of the competition.

The breakdown is as follows – The winner in both boys and girls categories will earn N400,000 and a trophy respectfully, and the runner-up will pocket N300.000 boys and girls. The third-placed team takes home N200.000 while the 4th placed team will chart home N100,000 boys and girls respectfully.

Akindele said he expects the Lagos State Football Association to take over and structure the tournament in its yearly calendar to make the tournament spread.

He however revealed that although, other states are showing interest in the competition, adding the scope of the competition would remain as it is for now.

The organisers however assured that all medical and security facilities are ready for hitch-free competition.
