Akeredolu admits naira shortage caused by executive lawlessness

Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has acknowledged the scarcity of both old and new naira notes is a needless pain inflicted by executive lawlessness that has a negative impact on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the eyes of voters.
He asked President Muhammadu Buhari to order Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to reverse the new naira design policy.
He decried the failure of the CBN to obey the Supreme Court ruling on the extension of the deadline to swap naira notes and stressed the need to allow all old and new notes to co-circulate.
Akeredolu bared his mind when he received in Akure members of the youth directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), led by Seyi Tinubu, the son of the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
His words: “We have a problem we are facing in this country today. Our rating as a party is not that favourable. Let’s not deceive ourselves. Must it be now that we will have this financial policy?
“How? Fuel and everything? Things are not easy. This policy is not right at this time. It should be reversed. Reserve it and tell CBN that we are reversing it. Let old and new notes co-exist.
“Okada, taxis, banks are not taking old notes again. There is an injunction [given by the Supreme Court] and everyone is behaving like there is no injunction.
“We have said that this man [Emefiele] should be removed when he contested to be President. The man is not fit for that position. A man who attempted to be President will frustrate us at this time.”

Youths have the power to change the system
Akeredolu expressed appreciation for the efforts of youths and reiterated they would determine the results of the election this year, being the largest bloc of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) holders with 70 per cent.
“Your demographic shows that you occupy a larger percentage. You are the ones that will talk to yourselves,” he added, per reporting by Vanguard.
He said the choice of Tinubu as APC presidential candidate was premised on informed decisions based on his competence and track record.
“We didn’t waver when we said that the Presidency must come to the South. And when it got to the South, we didn’t waver when we said competence and track record are important.
“Our choice of Asiwaju was premised on an informed decision not because we are from the same tribe.”
