Ajunwa praises Team Nigeria’s superb performance

Ajunwa advised that the performance of Team Nigeria should not be allowed to wane but improved upon at all levels of sports

Former female long jumper and Atlanta’96 Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa (7:12m) has said Nigeria Should put its house in order by recruiting new talents for the growth of sport at all levels.

Ajunwa who also showered praises on Team Nigeria sports contingent for a superb performance opined that all hands should be on deck for continuity.

In an interview monitored by thenicheng.com, Ajunwa said going back to the drawing board is very important in catching them young.

She noted that overtime, Nigeria has always succumbed to fire brigade approach in its preparation to important sports events as early preparations normally take the back seat. She however prayed that the attitude must stop.

“Nigeria is blessed by having most of our athletes trained abroad, I say thanks to Americans for training our athletes”

Ajunwa revealed she won gold in Atlanta with a foreign coach as trainer and wants the method to stop. Apparently, the reason she also advocates for coaches to be properly trained locally to abate dependence on foreign trainers and coaches.

The Assistant Commissioner of police insisted that local training for athletes and coaches is key for continuous medal haul at Games and Championships.

According to her, “it was all joy that Nigeria Team to World Athletics Championship in Oregon, US and Birmingham Commonwealth Games put the country on world sports map with superlative performance”

Ajunwa advised that the performance should not be allowed to wane but improved at all sports levels in future assignments
