Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has ordered that flags should fly at half-mast in honour of the state’s former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who died yesterday, June 25 from COVID-19 complications.
Makinde made the announcement in his condolence message to the family of Ajimobi family and the people of Oyo state.
News of his death first broke last Thursday, June 18. But his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, in a telephone discussion with TheNiche said it was false.
He was said to have been in the intensive care unit of the First Cardiologist hospital where he reportedly slipped into coma on June 8. But when TheNiche reached out to Tunji to confirm the story, he said it was false.
“My oga is still alive. He is not dead,” he said last Thursday night.
But a source close to the former governor told TheNiche this evening that Ajimobi breathed his last at about 4 pm.
Oyo House of Representatives member, Akin Alabi, also tweeted: “Forever in my heart.”
Ajimobi was the first Oyo governor to win a second term in office and governed between 2011 and 2019.
