Ajide made the call last Wednesday at the final of the fourth edition of the annual Ramadan Cup football competition which he sponsored within the LG.

At the final of the competition played between Surulere Sportscity Central Mosque and Ahmadiyyah Muslim Jalmat Headquarters held at the mini Campos Stadium, Lagos Island, Ajide said with competition of such standard, hidden talents would be discovered to take over from the ageing ones in the national teams.

He said: “Grassroots competitions like this will help the development of our football, and that is why we’ve resolved in my LG to do our best towards grassroots football development.

“I will continue to identify with sports as a vital tool towards taking youths out of the streets for the betterment of the society.”

He then enjoined other LGs to join hands with him towards helping the youths in the society to be meaningful to their generation and the country in general.

Meanwhile, at the end of the final match watched by scores of ex-internationals including Peter Nieketein, Tajudeen Disu, Jide Oloyde, Surulere Sportscity Central Mosque defeated Ahmadiyyah Muslim Jalmat 3-1 to cart home the giant trophy at stake.
