Six players of the female national Under-20 team, the Falconets, have been decamped for not living up to expectations ahead of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup billed for Canada this year.
Nigeria falconetsThe players are Sidi Ajibola of FC Robo of Lagos; Lilian Tula of Taraba Queens of Taraba; Florence David of Tewo Queens of Oyo; Chidinma Uchegbo of Yaba Queens of Lagos and Ayomide Ojo of Police Machine of Lagos while Fasilat Adeyemo was decamped for her failure to report three weeks after camp resumed.
Head coach of the team, Peter Dedevbo said the players have not being able to endure the rigors of training.
“I had told them that only the fit ones will make the final list,” he said.
The team will leave for Ondo State on Monday, May 26 for a friendly match with Sunshine Queens of Akure which comes up on Wednesday, May 28.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed an assistant coach for the team. She is Mrs. Wemimo Mathew Oni from Ondo State.
Wemimo was once an assistant coach of the U-20 Women’s team that went to Germany in 2010; Team Manager of Sunshine Queens; Chief coach of Sunshine Queens and Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) Ondo State Chapter.
She has also played with the Pelican Stars; Rivers Angels, Oladimeji Tigres and was invited to the national Under-23 team in 2010.
With the appointment, the Falconets now has two assistant coaches, bringing to four the number of technical crew members.
