Management of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State has expelled students of the institution who were involved in a fight that led to the death of a fellow student.
Reports emerged on Saturday that a male student of the university was allegedly beaten to death inside a hostel known as Shepherd Inn on the school premises by a group of other students for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.
TheNiche later gathered that the deceased also had his hair forcefully shaved by the assailants after he was reportedly caught with the stolen mobile phone.
A source in the school who spoke on condition of anonymity also said the deceased student was beaten from 6pm on Friday to about 10am on Saturday.

However, the university while confirming the incident debunked rumours that cultism exists in the school, saying it has zero tolerance for the menace.
According to the Public Relations Officer of Ajayi Crowther University, Femi Atoyebi, the deceased was alleged to have stolen a mobile telephone, but instead of reporting the issue to the management, the students took matters into their hands and eventually beat him to death.
He went on to say the students involved have been expelled by the institution, but added that they did not belong to any cult group.
Speaking via a statement Atoyebi further said: “The university has taken swift action by handing over all the students involved to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation, with the assurance that justice will be served.”
