The last time First Lady Aisha Buhari was seen in public was at the wedding of her daughter, Hanan who married Mohammed Turad Sha’aban, an aide to the minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola. And that was five months ago, on September 5, 2020.
After the wedding, she travelled abroad for medical treatment and returned on October 22. Since then, the First Lady has relocated to Dubai and has kept a low profile, not seen in public and has abandoned the social media. The last time she tweeted anything, actually a re-tweet, was on November 25, which was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
For many Nigerians, Aisha Buhari has simply abandoned her role as Nigeria’s First Lady, withdrawing from public life without any statement by her office or the presidency on why she disappeared from the social and political scene.
But Nigerians have not stopped asking where their First Lady is and why they think she has abandoned the Villa for Dubai.
@jacksonpbn tweeted: “ If Aisha Buhari can abandon all the goodies in Abuja, write off her husband’s Government and migrate to UAE where she is enjoying the beautiful serene of Dubai, who are you a Southerner to continue to embrace a globally known failure like Buhari and APC? Check your head oooo!”
@ShedrachJames added: “Patience Jonathan never abandoned us the way Aisha Buhari did. In the face of small trouble mama absconded.”
@ayemojubar also tweeted: “If Aisha Buhari with all the affluence she has in her possession could abandon her role and the title of First Lady of a whole country and relocate for months without looking back, it’s a signal such geographical area is inhabitable.”
@Mr Temu simply advised: “Dear Current affairs writer. Take note that Aisha Buhari is the first First lady to exit Nigeria citing insecurity in Aso Rock. Thanks.”
