Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has said that he and his teammates are aiming to claim Nigeria’s 4th title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
The three-time champions despite wobbling during recent World Cup qualifiers are among the favourites to win the title at the biennial competition being held in the West African nation.
Ahmed Musa, who was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the last AFCON trophy for Nigeria in 2013 in South Africa, while speaking on the chances of his team at the tournament, said they have what it takes to clinch the trophy.
He said: “We have the quality to win it, if you see the players in the 25-man squad, you can’t say we are not going to win.
“You know in football anything can happen, but we have the mindset to win it. The coach has already said his target is to win the AFCON and by God’s grace we are going to win it.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles Coach, Jose Peseiro, has said Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho is now fully fit to play at the 2023 AFCON.
The Portuguese tactician, who is under a lot pressure after recent results made this known during an interview with reporters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, late on Monday.
“Kelechi will be with us in Cote d’Ivoire. He has finished his treatment at Leicester City,” Paseiro said.
Nigeria will face hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in Group A.
The Super Eagles’ first game is against Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14.
