Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an international society in education, Nigeria chapter, has donated education materials to Central School, Umunko, Igbo-Etiti council of Enugu State.
While donating the materials, the KDP Nigeria President, Prof. Uche Grace Emetarom, said, “The organization will continue to strive to improve the situation of teachers and pupils in our schools”.
She said that the organization which has its headquarters in Indianapolis, U.S.A, was founded by William Bagley, Truman Kelly and Thomas Edgar Musselman in 1911 at the University of Illinois to recognize and promote excellence in education, promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching, provide a reasoned voice for significant issues and link learning communities of educators.
Emetarom said that through its programmes, services and strategic partnerships, KDP supports the professional growth and teaching practices of educators throughout all phases and levels of their careers, expressing optimism that the school items donated to the school would be helpful in advancing teaching and learning in Central School, Umunko.
Also the KDP National Treasurer and Chairperson, Abia State, Prof. Okpete Kanu, said that the event was a clear indication that KDP is really out to help humanity wherever they are located. She said, “We inconvenience ourselves to help others. Coming this far shows that we are really out to render selfless services to the society. You can see the milage we have covered to come to this place. I have never been here before. We are here at the expense of our own comfort. But I thank God for using us to put smiles on the faces of these pupils, their teachers and the education community”.
She advised the school to use the materials solely for the purpose they were given, which is to build effective and efficient teaching and learning activities.
In his address, the former Secretary to the Abia State Government, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, charged the school management and teachers to continue promoting education in the country, bearing in mind that their activities in the classroom would mould the pupils in the future.
In their various speeches, the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe .G.C. Eze, the council Chairman, Amuche Nnamani, and Eze Chijioke commended KDP for its humanitarian services and called on Nigerians to emulate the organization.
They also lauded the selfless efforts of the Chairperson, KDP Enugu State gifting ceremony, Dr. Thecla Eze, stating that she has been able to showcase her good virtues.
Responding Mr. Okenyi Cyril, the representative of the LGEA Education Secretary and Mr. Venitus Nwodo, thanked KDP for remembering the school which was before their charity visit helpless and promised to judiciously use the materials.
KDP had earlier donated educational materials to St. Thomas R.C.M. School 3, Agbowo, Ibadan, Oyo State, St. Patrick’s Nursery and Primary School, Ozuabam, Arochukwu, Abia State and Obinaetiti Community Primary School, Arondizuogu in Ideato L.G.A, of Imo State.
Items donated include: 20 pupils seats, eight kindergarten tables, four white marker board, 45 plastic seats, three packets of marker pen, 250 exercise books, four pieces of wall clock, one packet of crayon, one packet of eraser, one packet of sharpener, four bags, and one book shelve.
