For 13 years, the trial of Prophet Israel Oladele Ogundipe drags sluggishly.
Ogundipe is the shepherd-in-charge of CCC Global Genesis church. He is famous for creating a hybrid White Garment blend of Pentecostalism.
But on November 18, an Ikeja High Court sent him to jail for two years on a two count charge of fraud. Technically, he would spend just one year because each of the counts attracted one year each and the prison term would run concurrently.
The trial judge, Justice Olabisi Akinlade said she found Ogundipe guilty of two count charges out of the seven he was charged. Prominent among the charge was conning a U.K. based Nigerian woman, Mrs Olaide Williams-Oni of N17 million under the guise that he would build a house for her with the money.
They both met for the first time in 2002 for a prayer consultation when she came to Nigeria. Building a house later became part of the consultation he offered her.
