African Games 2023: Ghana coach, Basigi hails Black Princesses after beating Falconets 2-1

Basigi praised his team’s resilience after coming back from a goal down to win 2023 African Games women’s football gold

Black Princesses of Ghana head coach, Yussif Basigi has expressed delight at his team’s performance and remarkable comeback win against Nigeria’s Falconets.

The hosts defeated Nigeria 2-1 in the final of the women’s football event at the Cape Coast Stadium on Thursday night.

The Falconets opened the scoring in the 28th minute through Loveth Edeh after she pounced on a blunder by the Ghanaian goalkeeper, Afi Amenyeku.

However, the Black Princesses, fought back and ensured victory with goals from Tracey Twum and Mukarama Abdulai

After the thrilling encounter between the two rivals, Basigi while speaking with CAFonline said his girls were resilient.

The Ghanaian tactician went on to praise his team’s for coming back from a goal down to win the African Games women’s football gold.

He said: “I’m so proud of this team. We never stopped believing even when we went behind.

“To win a final like this in front of our home fans is an incredible feeling. These girls are champions in every sense.”
