Nigeria Athletes currently preparing for the Africa Games in various camps in Lagos and Abuja have complained about poor meals which had impacted negatively on their health.
Some senior Athletes that volunteered comments expressed concern over the quality of food served which they said has deteriorated such that Athletes only manage to eat as there was no alternative.
According to them, when Athletes complain, camp officials would remind them of how costly food and beverages are in the market and would tell them to demand from government to release more money.
“Beef in our meals have drastically dropped, we need it to build worn out tissues, the taste of meals here is also horrible. This is needing urgent government attention,” one of the Athletes said.
Efforts made to get one of the camp officials for comments failed for obvious reasons.
However, further investigations have it that funds provided for Athletes feeding in camps have reduced as food contractors now ration the quantity of market purchases.
The general perspective was the high price of food stuffs in the country which had negatively affected all sectors of the economy.
Speculations are rife that the Sports Ministry is in dare need of funds for the Games as President Tinubu is yet to release funds to the Sports Ministry.
