The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has called on
President Bola Tinubu-led administration to ensure it returns the country to the days it was practicing true federalism.

The apex Yoruba group made this known via a communiqué issued after its monthly regular meeting at Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, the home of its leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

Afenifere during the parley reiterated the country’s urgent need for true federalism, insisting the move is the only solution to restructure the country into a proper entity where all constituent groups have a sense of belonging.

The statement read: “Nigeria comprises entrenched ethnic nationalities that have failed to coalesce into a unified nation due to its deviation from the fundamental principles of federalism.

“Unless Nigeria is ruled on the basis of true federalism, which guarantees inclusiveness, fairness, egalitarianism, justice, and a sense of belonging to all its constituent groups, it will remain a mere geographical expression.”

Speaking on the February 25 general election, the mainstream Yoruba organisation criticised the Supreme Court’s verdict affirming President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential race.

It maintained that the judgment only endorsed what it termed “electoral misconduct” and added that it also eroded the country’s electoral gains.

“Afenifere is dismayed by the recent judgment of the Supreme Court, particularly regarding the Presidential Election, which seemingly endorsed electoral misconduct.

“Unfortunately, the Supreme Court’s decision has nullified the electoral advancements achieved through the public’s demand for quality control using technological advancements, as well as the significant financial investments made in this regard.” Afenifere also stated.
