The federal government has inaugurated the Technical Working Group of the Ministry for the agricultural sector, as part of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) agreement.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Alhaji Sabo Nanono represented by the Permanent Secretary Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe on Thursday inaugurated the Technical Working Group.
Daily Focus online posited that the Technical Working Group is tasked with collaborating with the National Action Committee on the AfCFTA to achieve the beneficial implementation of the agreement in the agricultural sector.
Speaking at the inauguration the Permanent Secretary noted that implementing the AfCFTA agreement is a key part of the ongoing economic diversification and holds great potential for improving the Nigerian economy.
He promised to ensure that the Ministry through the Technical Working Group plays a key role in the implementation of the agreement.
The Secretary of the National Action Committee on the AfCFTA Mr Francis Anatogu represented by the Team Lead, Trade in Goods, Mr Olu Ikulajolu highlighted the benefits of the agreement for Nigeria and Nigerians and stated that the Committee looks forward to the key role the Ministry will play in the implementation of the agreement
