Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has told Nigerians not to expect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government to fix a five decade power sector problem in just one year.
He made this known on Thursday while featuring on a Channels Television’s programme.
According to the minister, the administration is making consistent and gradual progress towards solving the power sector’s challenges.
“The problem we are having is an accumulated problem of over 50 years; it will not disappear in one year, but we’ve been making consistent and gradual progress”, he said.

His comment comes amid the recent hike in electricity tariff for customers under Band A.
The tariff hike had created disaffection and anger among Nigerians, especially the Organized Labour Unions, who were calling for a reversal.
Adelabu also recently apologized to Nigerians over comments he made about people who leave their AC and freezers even when they are not home.
The Minister for Power said: “Sincerely, it (the comment) was passed across jokingly. It was just a comical illustration and never intended to insult anybody. So, to Nigerians who felt offended by the statement I say sorry, forgive us. This is our country.”
