Adelabu, however, said the FG is working on paying power generation companies to resolve the declining electricity supply

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has explained why electricity supply in the country dropped drastically.
He disclosed the reason in a statement released on Friday by his special adviser, strategic communication and media relation, Bolaji Tunji.
Adelabu in the press release blamed gas constraints on thermal generating companies for the drop in power supply nationwide.
“In the past couple of weeks, there has been a significant downturn in the level of power supply to Nigerians. This is mainly due to a decreased level of gas supply to generation companies.
“This situation has led to a lower level of energy supplied to load centres, which has affected the supply of electricity to distribution companies,” he said.

The minister, however, reassured Nigerians that the federal government is working on paying power generation companies to resolve the declining electricity supply.
“Efforts are on the way by the Federal Government to ensure outstanding payments are made to generation companies, to ensure improved gas supply and increased power generation.”
This will also enable distribution companies to supply more electricity to Nigerians. We acknowledge the current unsustainable situation, and we expect a turnaround immediately,” Adelabu added.
Prior to this, the TCN had attributed the drop in bulk power supply to gas constraints.
Consequently, Electricity Distribution Companies across the country apologised to consumers for the drop in power supply.
