Nigerian singer and songwriter, Adekunle Kosoko better known as Adekunke Gold has sent tongues wagging on social media after stating that Timi Dakolo’s song, ‘Great Nation’ would have made a better national anthem than the old anthem which the country returned to.
TheNiche had earlier reported that the President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, May 29 signed the “National Anthem Bill 2024” into law, thereby reinstating the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”
After his assent on the controversial bill, some Nigerians hailed the decision, while others slammed the president, saying there are more pressing issues to focus on.
Reacting to the development, Adekunle Gold wondered why those in authority did not consider Timi Dakolo’s ‘Great Nation’ as the country’s new anthem.

Taking to his X handle, he asked: “No one thought Timi Dakolo’s Great Nation makes a better anthem?”
After the now-viral tweet found its way to the internet, it elicited mixed reactions from netizens who trooped to the comment section of the post.
An X user, identified as @CarmillaXander agreed with him saying, “Absolutely yes, that song could make the least patriotic Nigerian stand up and go ‘sasageyo’.”
Another netizen, @Tyekooon tweeted, “The lyrics are too deep for an unserious country, hence.”
While @jachukwu wrote, “If they were truly looking for an anthem that will steer up patriotism and love for the country it would have been that song.”
However, @BFMPLUS disagreed with the singer saying, “Yes but it still carries the disputable and derogatory word: Tribe!! We should stop describing ourselves as tribal people.
“No whiteman ever allows himself to be called tribe.”
