Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and lawyer to some of the groups planning to demonstrate against economic hardship in the country in August, has accused Telecommunications companies of plotting to frustrate the upcoming nationwide protest.

Speaking via a statement on Sunday, the senior lawyer alleged that there are a lot of complaints about network restrictions as the date for the protest approaches.

Adegboruwa noted, “In recent days, some telecom companies have been disconnecting subscribers for trivial or unexplained reasons.”

He went on to question the timing of these disconnections, suggesting that they are intended to limit the reach of protesters and frustrate the planned demonstration.

He further noted that telecom contracts are binding and that subscribers should be adequately informed whenever there are issues.

The SAN also urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to investigate the matter and ensure that subscribers’ rights are protected.

TheNiche had earlier reported that the nationwide protest scheduled to begin on August 1 and the end ten days after, is aimed at address issues of hunger, poverty, and dissatisfaction with government’s economic policies.
