Crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has hit new levels as the party has suspended 17 state chairmen over alleged anti-party activities and utterances aimed at bringing the ADC to disrepute.

A statement on Wednesday jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, and National Secretary, Said Abdullahi, said the party also suspended Ibrahim Manzo, former National Vice Chairman, North-East.

The statement noted that the party appointed Mani Ahmed, a presidential aspirant in 2015, as chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).

It said Ahmed emerged the party’s BoT chairman at the end of an emergency National Working Committee (NWC) and critical stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday.

According to the statement, activities of the suspended chairmen contravene Article 15 of the party’s constitution.

“The party’s former chairman in Abia was expelled; replacement for the suspended state chairmen will be announced in due course,” it added.

The statement urged all ADC executives at ward, local government and state level to continue structuring the party at the grassroots for campaign take-off.

The ADC encouraged its candidates at all levels, not to be distracted by the activities of the chairmen and others, but to remain focused ahead of 2023 general elections.

This is coming after the state chairmen of the ADC declared their support for the party’s presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, despite an announcement that he was suspended.

Kachikwu was suspended last week after the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) accused him of making defamatory statements that contravened the values of the ADC.
