Adamolekun argues that the much-touted power rotation has always been an ad-hoc arrangement of the ruling political party and not the collective decision of the people

A Youth Leader in Akoko North Federal Constituency in Ondo state, Comrade Ebenezer Adamolekun, has rubbished the purported rotation arrangement between Akoko North East and Akoko North West on the House of Representatives seat in the area.
In a statement issued in Akure, the Ondo state capital, Adamolekun lamented that political activities are becoming more tense in the state as we are approaching another general election where the different elective positions will be filled.

According to him, many agitations about which local government should fill the Akoko North House of Representatives seat come 2023 are already been clamoured.
“Let me say that the stories of rotation agreement between the two local governments are still far from the truth.
“For the purpose of clarity, and to put the record straight, Rotational Agreement is a complete party affair. In 1999, leaders in Alliance for Democracy (AD) sat down and formulate an agreement within the party to rotate the seat between the two local governments, they did it to prevent unnecessary rancour that may erupt the filling of candidates for certain political positions knowing fully well what differences in languages may cause in the entire Akoko communities.
Adamolekun went on: “The decision was taken solely by AD leaders, it’s not binding on leaders of other political parties as at then. It was done without the consent of the Kabiyesis, not even the religious leaders were carried along with nor the opinion leaders in all the towns and villages of the two local governments.
“However, in 2003 when PDP took over the power from AD, they had their own meeting as well, and they modified the arrangements to their favour selfishly. PDP extended the agreement to other positions like Assembly, all within the PDP party.
“Looking at the above story, you will agree with me that, there was no gathering where the two local governments came together to concretize the agreement till date. How then has it become a law? Yes, it’s fairly popular, that does not mean it can’t be changed. Moreso, both Local governments always present candidates at every contest, and now that we have a very popular and performing occupant in the green Chambers that is loved by the good people of both local governments in the person of Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo (BTO)
“The only constant thing is CHANGE which is even the slogan of our unbeatable party APC, We can change from the old way of doing things, change old tradition to a new tradition, old culture to a new one.
“Ondo State during the administration of Gov Mimiko changed the one term per Governor to two terms, heaven did not fall. Nothing stops us from repeating the same in our Federal Constituency,” he said.
Adamolekun, therefore, implored everyone to shield sword and embrace peace in the interest of the development of Akoko land.
