Abuja discontinues trial of Sowore, Bakare for peace to reign

Abuja has discontinued the trial of Omoyele Sowore and co-defendant Olawale Bakare (also known as Mandate) over their social agitation tagged #RevolutionNow, idea floated in the Muhammadu Buhari years of the locust that degraded Nigeria.

Sowore, publisher of SaharaReporters, an online publication, is often the thorn in the flesh of the authorities and has run for President a couple to times to fix Africa’s most populous most people agree is ruled by bad leaders.

The discontinuation of the trial was communicated to the Abuja Federal High Court in a notice of discontinuance, dated February 14 but filed the next day by federal Attorney General and Justice Minister Lateef Fagbemi.

“By virtue of the power conferred on me under Section 174 (1) (c} of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, Section 107 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN intend to discontinue charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/235/2019,” the notice said.

Sowore and Bakare were arraigned in 2019 before the Federal High Court in Abuja following his staging of a protest rally in Abuja which he tagged “Revolution Now.”
