EDITORIAL POLICY

Our Editorial Policy is a reflection of the era in which it emerged. In many ways the emergence of the publication is a response to the structural dysfunction of the Nigerian Republic and prevalent mood of disillusionment. In helping to find solutions to the myriad problems, however, TheNiche will strive to always be positive as well as optimistic.

We support the structural reconstruction of the Federation because of our strong belief that the well-being of the Republic and the living standards of its citizens can only be guaranteed through fiscal federalism.

We want to see Nigeria transform into a community of producers. A productive state propelled by individual and community efforts; a democracy anchored on production rather than consumption. We saw this happen in the 1960’s when the Eastern Region of Nigeria was the fastest growing unit in the entire British Commonwealth of Nations.

TheNiche will always anchor its position on the need for social justice, fairness and respect for human and communal rights. TheNiche will be uncompromising against any form of discrimination and subjugation either by tribe, gender or religion. TheNiche believes that for sustainable progress to be made there must be strong institutions.

For as President Barack Obama sensibly pointed out in Ghana, in Africa the age of the ‘big men’ has gone. Today’s age is that of strong, independent, technically empowered institutions and regulatory bodies.

This is why we will fight uncompromisingly for an independent judiciary, independent Central Bank and strong, independent regulatory agencies. This is because the state is no longer a provider but is now a regulator of a host of services and products. Strong institutions are therefore needed to support such a state.

We will also support market based reforms anchored on fair competition and equity. We will therefore seek to practice journalism in the most professional and ethical manner and serve the public trust with due diligence.

TheNiche:

TheNiche was published simultaneously as a main stream newspaper (Print) and online newspaper, but we decided to reposition our business model to move with the trend given the rate at which technology is moving today and the attendant varnishing print. We are now, solely online, which is the new media direction. Currently, TheNiche Newspaper has continued to blaze the trail with quality, well-researched and exclusive stories, telling it with passion and compassion. Our reputation rests on the highest standard of professionalism and absolute commitment to quality driven by passion to provide world class reportage to our readers. To this end, we are one of the fastest growing online newspapers in the country today, constantly improving on the content as well as delivering real time value to our audience.

Our Team:

Our team consists of accomplished professionals and the best crop of journalists in Nigeria who have brought their skills and more than 20 years experiences to bear on the newspaper. Our strength lies in our traditional commitment to recruiting high quality, trainable personnel at all levels. As a result, our team of dedicated staff have been able to ensure that our readers enjoy high quality and well edited news.
