Abia offers 17 best WAEC candidates scholarships

A total of 17 students from each of the local government areas of Abia state have been awarded scholarship due to their outstanding performance at the 2015 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, said that the gesture was to celebrate excellence, noting that the kind gesture was a way of appreciating and encouraging the outstanding students since Abia state came first in the result published by WAEC.

This was stated in a press statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Enyinnaya Apolos.

According to the statement, the scholarship covers the training of the benefi¬ciaries in any Nigerian tertiary institution of their choice.

“The governor also directed that going forward, the best performing student in WASCCE from each of the 17 LGAs will receive automat¬ic tertiary education scholarship from the state government.

“The West African Ex¬amination Council (WAEC) recently released details of the performance of stu¬dents by state and Abia state came first as the best performing state, while 35 other states and Abuja queued be¬hind”, the statement added.
