Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, on Monday, said the abductors of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, have contacted his government.
Masari made this known when he briefed the President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura.
This was contained in a series of tweets by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Monday.
Writing on his confirmed twitter handle, @GarShehu, the media aide said, “President Muhammadu Buhari Monday in Daura, Katsina State, received more briefing on children kidnapped from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, with an assurance from Governor Aminu Bello Masari of steady progress to bring them out unharmed.
“We are making progress and the outlook is positive,’’ the Governor told newsmen after an hour meeting with the President, which started at 2pm.
“The Governor, who was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of the state, Manir Yakubu, said the kidnappers had made contact and discussions were already on pertaining to safety and return to their homes.
“Governor Masari also noted that security agencies had located the position of the children.
“The Governor said the President was fully committed to the rescue of the school children, adding that it was only appropriate to visit the President and give him more details of rescue efforts.”
Bandits had stormed the school on Friday night and abducted the students after a gun duel with the police. The President had arrived in the state on Friday, hours before the abduction took place.
But many Nigerians who reacted to Shehu’s tweets took umbrage at the president.
Segun Oruame@segunoruameThe picture has not projected PMB and this government well. While parents are in pains, the country in turmoil and the international community watch in exasperation, you are tweeting a picture so casual that it makes a mockery of a national tragedy.”

Enoghayin precious@preciousoi “Buhari is now one of the gods of our land, only the chief priest can see him… what stops Our president to visit the scene now that he’s in Kastina the epic center of insecurity
OneNigeria @mazimg_germany “You want to endanger the god? Na you talk say na center 4 wahala.
Olabode@BodeWarlord “Nothing to see here just the same old shenanigans of briefing while the affected Governor is told to smile as usual to the press and never make the president look bad or incompetent. We r waiting patiently for the right time to end this Insha Allah
Blessed Beyond Measure (BBM)@Drmuzoic “Isn’t he supposed to be out there accessing the situation first hand? What’s the meaning of all these meaningless briefing all the time? If he was in Abuja, they will send him pictures, now he is in Katsina & can’t even visit the families or the school? Uselessness personified
Jus Scenario@JusScenario “Just listen to urself, so the president is there in daura and sending delegate from Abuja to the scene and the families of the said students. May God never let us experience this level of cluelessness and ineptitude.

TIM@timi_maverick – @GarShehuSSA to the President on Media and Publicity @GarShehu thinks this picture of our bovine president and the maladroit governor cross-legged and relaxed in an stupendously furnished room like two friends catching up is a good look at this time.
Uche Onwuegbula@invincible_uche – Replying to @GarShehuWith all the monies allocated for security and yet ‘discussions are already on’. I truly hope it hasn’t reached the point of paying ransoms after the huge security allocations in the budget.
Phidah Montage@phidah_expo – See this one, wetin you dey expect before…
Aondoasee Gwa@aseergwa – Replying to @GarShehu These people have shame at all? Does a president need briefing from his state governor when he is present in the state by himself? Isn’t it he that should visit the governor after meeting with the parents, teachers and survivors of the attack?
Adebanjo Taiwo@TaiwoSAdebanjo – Replying to @GarShehu All this stage kidnapping just to release money or let me just hit the nail on the head, premeditated kidnapping in other to loot and share the proceed is inhuman and if it’s truly a failed security system well there is no reason for us to have Buhari as a president.

OjoMakpenen@makpenen – Replying to @GarShehu I can bet with anyone that if Buhari steps out of his comfort zone, bandits will kidnap him. Bandits knew who that impostor is. Let him try to go out and see what those bandits will do to him.
