Abducted Bayelsa speaker’s brother whereabouts unknown

Gunmen in Bayelsa have gone on rampage again, this time abducting Iniokpoemi Benson, a younger sibling of the speaker of Bayelsa House of Assembly, Kombowei Benson.

According to Hilary Okpara, the Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, the incident ocured in the early hours of the morning, at about 3 a.m. Okpara added that the younger Benson was abducted at his residence in Korokorosei village in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area and that the special anti-kidnap squad of the police remains on the trail of the kidnappers.

“We have got information on the incident, the DPO in the area and the Assistant Commissioner of Police have briefed me and the good thing is that we have known the direction the hoodlums are heading to so we shall round them up,” Okpara said.

But despite the commisisoner’s assurances that the gunmen would be apprehended and victim rescued, relatives of the victim, said to be the immediate past chairman of the community’s development committee, are not likely to be consoled.

It would be recalled that the 90-year-old Florentina Paulker, mother of Sen. Emmanuel Paulker who represents Bayelsa Central in the Nigerian Senate, was abducted late July and has remained in captivity since then.

It is the second time Madam Paulker, abducted in the Opollo area of Yenagoa, would be kidnapped. She had been abducted back in 2010 and freed after eight days in captivity.
