The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 47-year-old Ikechukwu Okoli, who allegedly broke into Gateway Baptist Church, at Alagbado, on the outskirts of Lagos and stole Church properties worth N2,050,000.
The defendant was arraigned before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court Lagos.
Mr Okoli whose address was not given, is facing a two count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Chinalu Uwadione told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on September 11, 2017, adding that the incident occurred at about 5:30am, at Gateway Baptist Church, in Alagbado area of Lagos.
Uwadione also alleged that Okoli broke into the Church building and stole properties from the Church.
He averred that some of the properties stolen are one Steeve Engine, Mixer Engine, Casio Organ Keyboard, Plasma TV, Stabilizer, Microphone and some cable all valued N2,050,000 (Two million and fifty thousand Naira), property of one Reverend Oladiran Samuel.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the counts preferred against him.
According to the prosecutor,the offences allegedly committed by the defendant are punishable under Sections 311 and 280, of the Criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. I Adelaja, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till February 2, 2018, for mention.
